Jaime's RPI story

BaseCamp athlete Jaime Baeza shared her experience at the 2024 Rebecca's Private Idaho event.

Some of my RPI highlights, as I just completed the first of two very long days of driving home. I am so thankful for how many BaseCampers I got to meet, as well as reunite with. I didn’t get photos with everyone, which I always regret. The woman who organized the Bikepack RPI got covid so she asked if I’d step in and lead it. Aerah Hardin is basically superwoman and was fully supportive the whole week. Of course when we woke up Wednesday morning and were supposed to ride up the Harriman Trail for the first night, the smoke had descended in that area. We altered our camp one plans to Corral Creek as the AQI was significantly better in that direction at the time. We had a blast, a total of nine women camped. Unfortunately the smoke crept over to us that night and we woke up covered in ash and could really see how much worse it was once we rode back to Trail Creek. We slow rolled back to Ketchum to figure out what to do for night 2, as it was obvious at that time of day that we couldn’t ride to camp 2 and sleep in the smoke again. As we were figuring out plans in the parking lot I see Rebecca Rusch drive in and ran and gave her a hug. Let me tell you, this is why I love RPI. She saw a bunch of dirty bikepackers and knew our plans would need to pivot. She quickly offered up a rental condo for all nine of us to have an indoor place to pile into and sleep for the night. To say there were nine relieved women was an understatement. The camp out and the Be Good fundraiser party were my highlights, as well as getting to again see my friends old and new. What a GREAT week!
