Sarah's RPI story

BaseCamp athlete Sarah Hill-Nelson shared her experience at the 2024 Rebecca's Private Idaho event.

A huge thanks to this awesome group for all the support, guidance, and learning I got through this prep for RPI. I thought it was seriously hard, and I am super glad I got through it. Honestly without the training I think there is no way I would have made the cutoff. It kind of freaked me out that I only made the 1st cutoff by about 15 mins. I was hoping for an average time around 7:30, which I blew by over an hour. I am trying to celebrate the finish and know that at pretty much every minute of the day I was trying to give it my all and maintain staying power at the same time. I was alone a lot but when I was able to group up it was miraculous. I rode with some amazing, warm and very cool people throughout the day and did appreciate the beauty and wild aloneness. I probably did not eat enough. In any case I got a bolo tie and it was a huge growth event and I will probably go home and go over stats and feel like somehow I could/should have finished better with all the training but the point is to learn and celebrate growth. I was so lucky to have two lifelong friends join me out there to support, which I will never forget. Because I had friends I missed the party and really making the Basecamp connections which honestly was the only bummer of the weekend. Rebecca Rusch has managed to create an event that is warm, supportive, thoughtful, and challenging all at the same time (kind of like Rebecca). I LOVED the structure of the training and all the guidance and learning (this is the 1st time I have ever even ridden with a power meter!). Thank you Namrita Brooke and Tim Cusick and Tina Hart. I have never felt stronger. Huge congrats to everyone for taking this on! Big virtual hugs to all and I will hope to reconnect in the future!
